IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING MC SQUARED LAW AND CONSULTING

After 27 years in private law practice, on November 1, 2013, I will be closing my private practice doors and opening an exciting new door as Vice President of Corporate Legal and Business Affairs at Magic Leap, Inc. (www.magicleap.com).

This bleeding edge technology company promises to push the envelope globally in not only hardware and software but the way we interact with the world. This is the stuff I love most: the perfect mix of science, entertainment, and business — with a group of great people. Smart, highly ethical, wildly imaginative, very focused, totally professional and just slightly wacky.

My relationship with Magic Leap began as outside corporate counsel in 2011. As this well-funded company has grown at a spectacular pace, it became more and more clear that I was needed full-time. Earlier this year, the founder asked me to join the senior team. I can’t yet share the details, so you’ll have to trust me when I tell you this was clearly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The only thing that made this decision difficult was knowing that I would be changing treasured business relationships with clients (both old and new) whom I have respected, enjoyed, learned from, contributed to and will greatly miss. But this doesn’t have to be an end. I am committed to supporting the smooth transition to other trusted legal advisors, as well as to staying in touch and allowing for new types of collaborations to surface.

Although the company is based in Florida, I will continue to work from Los Angeles. So, I’m on to a completely different adventure.

I want to thank everyone who has participated in my now changing career, as clients, colleagues, mentors, friends, or anything else. I hope you’ll all keep me posted on the coming phases of your lives as well.

Sincerely,

Michael
